About SFP
SFP is the name given to the expansion slots used to establish a fiber-optic connection. It is an abbreviation formed from the initials of the English words Small Form Pluggable. Since the internet became part of our lives, it has become one of the concepts we have gradually grown familiar with.
SFP module devices operate independently of protocol. They are the equipment required to establish a fiber-optic connection on an internet network. SFP port slots are created, and copper wire or fiber optics can be plugged into these slots for use.
How Is SFP Used?
You have the option of choosing different SFP modules even for the same device. This way, even on the same device, you can use an SFP module for different applications. When you purchase an SFP module, you can request more detailed information about how it will be used.
SFP modules are not of a single kind. There are 3 different types of SFP module that you can use according to different needs and requirements.
Multi Mode
Multi-mode SFP, the first of the SFP module types, is designed to work with fiber-optic cables. Multi-mode SFP can be run using different types of fiber optics. The distance you achieve will vary according to the type of fiber-optic cable you use. There are 100 Mbps and 1000 Mbps interfaces.
Single Mode One Pair
Single-mode one-pair SFP modules have a bidirectional cable. That is, there are two wires for the fiber-optic cable as well. One can be thought of as outgoing and the other as incoming. It can be run using a wavelength of 1310 nm as well as 1550 nm. The module at a wavelength of 1310 nm provides a distance of 15-20 km, while the module at 1550 nm provides up to 300 km.
Single Mode Bidirectional
Here there is a single-strand fiber-optic cable. It is not divided into outgoing and incoming. Communication is achieved using frequencies; it can both receive and transmit a frequency at the same time.
